Research: Theoretical Physics

Postgraduate study in the Theoretical Physics group

Prospective students

Theory Group Postgraduate Open Day on 18 January

Welcome to the Postgraduate Study section! Here we hope to give prospective students an overview of the programmes on offer in the group. We offer two streams of postgraduate study:

  • MSc in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces

The course is intended to bridge the gap between undergraduate work and the research frontier in theoretical physics. For those with a 3- or 4-year undergraduate degree, it is often the best route to a PhD programme.

  • PhD programme

A PhD degree in the Theoretical Physics Group enables outstanding students to pursue fundamental research at the forefront of theoretical physics. Successful applicants typically have a 4-year undergraduate degree and/or a relevant Masters degree.

There are some fully funded scholarships available for both programmes. For more detailed information, including how to apply and the entrance requirements, follow the relevant link. You may also want to look in the "Current Students" section below, as well as the PhD student seminar listings and the summary of the group's research interests.
