CASC Summer School on Ceramics

Third Summer School 2012

The third CASC Summer School on Ceramics will take place from 12 to 14 September 2012 at Imperial College London. The summer school will provide tutorials focussing on current developments in ceramic synthesis, processing and mechanical characterisation with particular emphasis on the practical aspects and hands-on experience. These tutorials will be aimed at early career engineers and researchers – working in universities or industry – who wish to enhance their ceramics background. Topics to be covered are ceramic powder synthesis, wet processing and mechanical testing at micro and macro scales. Tutorial sessions will cover state-of-the-art ceramic processing techniques and advanced mechanical characterisation.

Presenters will include:

  • Dr Tim Clipsham (Morgan Technical Ceramics, UK)
  • Prof. Serafin Moya (Insituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid, CSIC, Spain)
  • Dr Alessandro Alan Porporati (CeramTec, Germany)
  • Prof. Fabrice Rossignol (Université de Limoges, France)
  • Prof. Derek Sinclair (University of Sheffield, UK)
  • Dr Luc Vandeperre (CASC, Imperial College London) 

The registration fee of £300 will cover accommodation for two nights and meals during the three days of the course.

Second Summer School 2011

The second CASC Summer School took place at Imperial College London from 21 to 23 September 2011. There were just over 30 attendees, with more than half coming from universities and research organisations across Europe. Presenters included: Prof. Jerome Chevalier, Prof. Bill Clegg, Dr Tim Clipsham, Dr Urs Gonzenbach, Prof. Bill Lee and Dr Antoni Tomsia.

First Summer School 2010

CASC ran its first ceramics summer school at Imperial College London from 14 to 16 September 2010. The school brought together twenty attendees from outside Imperial College with a wide range of backgrounds and an even mixture of industrial and academic experience, providing a venue for dialogue and networking.

Presenters at the first CASC Summer School included: Prof. Aldo Boccaccini, Prof. Jerome Chevalier, Prof. Manish Chhowalla, Dr Jaime Franco, Dr Finn Giuliani, Prof. Mike Reece and Prof. Eduardo Saiz.
