The Pimlico Connection
Noticeboard
Welcome to the Pimlico Connection website!
The Pimlico Connection is a peer-tutoring scheme that has been running at Imperial College London since 1975. Students volunteer as classroom assistants and mentors in local primary and secondary schools on a wednesday afternoon between November and March each year. The emphasis is on inspiring the pupils in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects (STEM) whilst raising aspirations and providing a positive role model for both science and higher education.
Each year the scheme attracts over 100 student volunteers and has recently won the Outstanding Project Award at the Student Volunteering Awards in December 2004.
The scheme has been running for over 30 years and is one of the most popular and well known peer-tutoring schemes in the country. Be part of it today!
Potential Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer your time to help out in local primary or secondary schools on a wednesday afternoon, this is the scheme for you.
We recruit during October and you begin your placement in November with a team of fellow Pimlico volunteers and you finish your last placement in March.
The Pimlico Connection is only available to students registered at Imperial College London.
Potential Schools
Do you feel your school could benefit from having the help of a bright and enthusiastic science or engineering student from Imperial every wednesday afternoon? The service is completely free and all students are trained and CRB checked in advance. All we ask is that:
- The school is relatively close to Imperial in South Kensington (many students have lectures until lunchtime and so have little time to travel to their placement school)
- It is a comprehensive school
- The school would benefit from extra help and support in science, maths, ICT or technology
