Dr Steffen Bayer works in the Healthcare Management Group at Imperial College Business School. His main interest is the planning of health services, in particular the use of simulation modelling. His past work includes studies on stroke care and home-based technology supported health delivery. He uses a variety of approaches in his research including qualitative research, system dynamics and discrete event simulation.

Steffen is currently leading a study on the use of simulation modelling in health planning (a collaboration with colleagues at the University of Southampton) as well as continuing his work on stroke care in a project with collaborators at MIT and Harvard. He has a long running interest in telecare, in particular in using modelling in evaluating the impact of telecare on the care system and the potential financial implications of mainstream implentation of telecare. He supervises doctoral research projects on innovation in stroke care and on the assessment of telemedicine using simulation modelling.

Steffen is a member of the EPSRC funded Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC), a collaboration between Imperial and the universities of Loughborough, Salford and Reading. He is a member of the HaCIRIC executive and research coordinator for HaCIRIC at Imperial.

He holds a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Science and Technology Policy Studies from the University of Sussex as well as a Masters in Physics from the University of Texas. Prior to working at Imperial, Steffen was a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex.

Steffen is a member of the Policy Council of the UK Chapter of the International System Dynamics Society.
