Dr Rob Fenton
Research Development Director
Dr Fenton joined the Institute of Biomedical Engineering having completed a distinguished 32 year career at GlaxoSmithKline. His background has always been in research, primarily in virology but also in cancer. His team at Glaxo successfully developed the first rationally designed antiviral treatment for influenza, RelenzaTM.
Dr Fenton now helps coordinate research activities within the Institute whilst developing collaborations across Imperial College, building partnerships between the Institute and College Faculties. To do this he has introduced 5 Technology Networks which provide a forum for interdisciplinary interaction within Imperial College. These promote technologies that provide engineering solutions to medical problems, providing a portal for the dissemination of scientific information. In addition, these Networks provide critical mass for potential multidisciplinary project proposals.
