Biography
Dr Raphael (Rafi) Blumenfeld studied physics at Tel Aviv University, Israel. He had post-doctoral appointments at Cambridge University (UK) and Princeton University (USA), and a Fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA). He was a research scientist for a company developing CFD codes and a project leader of the mesoscale software group for MSI (now Accelrys). Since 1998 he has been a long-term visiting scientist at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge. In 2005 he came to Imperial College as a Senior Research fellow.

During the past ten years, RB has delivered many plenary and keynote lectures in conferences, chaired 8 sessions in conferences, and has been either on the organizing committee or the sole organiser of 8. Since 2000 he has delivered over 70 colloquiua, departmental seminars and invited talks in institutes around the world.

He has won recently several Grants and scholarships: EPSRC Grant (2010, 239K GBP); the Alan Howard Scholarship for a PhD student - R. Hihinashvili (2008, 230K GBP); EOARD Grant (2008, 50K USD); StatoilHydro Grant (2007, 50K GBP); EPSRC Grant (2005, 294K GBP).
He has published over 75 papers in high impact factor journals and has over 100 publications in general.
