Dr Mengxing Tang joined the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College as a Lecturer in 2006 and became a Senior Lecturer in 2011. Before moving to London he was a Departmental Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. Dr Tang's current research mainly focuses on three topics: quantiative and functional imaging with ultrasound and microbubble contrast agents; Ultrasound modulated optical imaging and sensing; and signal and image analysis. In a recent work funded by EPSRC, he has investigated various techniques of measurement, modelling and signal processing in order to i) obtain better understanding of the microbubble imaging physics; ii) develop model based calibration techniques for quantitative imaging with correction of attenuation and nonlinear artefacts. More recently he is starting to expand his research to molecular imaging using targeted microbubble contrast agents. In another recent work funded by EPSRC and the Royal Society, he and his colleagues have developed a technique combining ultrasound, the radiation force generated by the ultrasound, and light for imaging both optical and mechanical properties of soft tissue. His previous research involved developing clinical relevant parametric images of electrical properties of soft biological tissue for breast cancer detection.
