James is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research focuses on urban energy systems, but also urban resource consumption more generally. Previously he was a Research Fellow and Team Leader of the BP Urban Energy Systems project and retains close links with the project.
He has previously worked on urban sustainability indicators, as well as UK microgeneration and domestic energy consumption issues.
