Electrochemical Science & Engineering in Transport
My research is based around fuel cell, battery and supercapacitor technology, and their application in transport. From the fundamental science to integration and systems engineering. The problems I investigate tend to emerge at the interface between the science and engineering. When a problem emerges in an application, to understand it better it is often necessary to drill back down again into the science, but always in the context of the application. Please see my research pages below for more information.
I have just been awarded an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship for my research into the electrochemistry of carbon in solid oxide fuel cells and their application in hybrid and electric vehicles.

Engagement with Parliament and Policy Makers
Department Energy and Climate Change
I have just finished a secondment to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as an EPSRC Fellow. This was part of the ESRC public sector placement fellowship scheme.
I was working as part of the team working on the 2050 pathways project, of which the full analysis was published in July 2010 and can be downloaded here.
Select Committee
From June 2009 until November 2009 I was on secondment to the Select Committee for Energy and Climate Change at the House of Commons. I was helping conduct their enquiry into 'Low carbon technologies in a green economy'. This was sponsored by the Grantham Institute for Climate Change.
The report was published in March 2010 and can be read here or downloaded here.
Parliamentary Office Science & Technology
I was awarded a Westminster Fellowship in 2005 from the Royal Society of Chemistry to work at the Parliamentary Office of Science &Technology for 3 months. During this time I wrote a parliamentary briefing note (postnote) on 'Low Carbon Priva te Vehicles' which was published in January 2006. Download the complete postnote here.
