Professor Davies spent a year at MIT immediately after graduation in 1957: from 1957 to 1959 he worked in the advanced projects office at British Aerospace (Filton) then 1959-1966 in the Aeronautics Department at Sydney University; from 1966-1999 in the Aeronautics Department at Imperial College as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Chair of Aerostructures, and Head of Aerostructures section, and from 1982-1989 as Head of Department. From 1996 to 1998 he was Pro Rector (Resources) at the College and has now returned to Aeronautics
