Andrew Davies is a Reader in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group. He leads research in the Business School on "managing innovation in infrastructure projects and systems", including airports, road, water and energy utilities, ICT and urban infrastructure. He is a co-director of the EPSRC Innovation Studies Centre and theme leader of research on 'systems, services and design'. 

His theoretical and empirical research focuses on innovation in temporary organisation, focusing on the capabilities, learning and routines required to successfully manage complex and uncertain projects. He is known for his work on project business, systems integration and integrated solutions. 

He has published many articles in a range of journals such as Research Policy, California Management Review, MIT Sloan Management Review,  Industrial and Corporate Change, Organization Studies, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, International Journal of Project Management and Industrial Marketing Management. Recent books include The Business of Projects: Managing Innovation in Complex Products and Systems , Cambridge University Press (2005), co-authored with Michael Hobday, and The Business of Systems Integration, Oxford University Press (2003, 2005), co-edited with Andrea Prencipe and Michael Hobday.

Andrew was previously Deputy Director of the ESRC Complex Product Systems (CoPS) Innovation Centre. During his time at Sussex, Andrew was a Visting Research Fellow at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (1998) and 'Innovator-in-residence' at the Technology and Innovation Management Centre, Queensland University (2003). He joined the Business School in June 2005.

Andrew consults with large private and public organisations such as the Highways Agency, RWS (Dutch highways and water agency), BT Global Services, Cable & Wireless, Ericsson, Alstom and provides technology policy advice to the OECD, European Commission and Government agencies in the UK, Australia, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and South Africa.
