The first students of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine in Singapore begin their training today.

Since the School was formed in 2010 as a partnership with Nanyang Technological University, a team in Imperial's Faculty of Medicine has created the innovative curriculum for the new MBBS degree, which will be jointly awarded by the two universities.

Students will gain experience in a wide range of clinical settings from an early stage in their training and will use the very latest learning technology, including South East Asia's first Anatomage Table which displays life-sized 3D images of full body anatomy. Over 200 e-lectures have been professionally recorded by professors, clinicians and scientists, which students will be able to access from their iPads anytime and anywhere.

"At LKCMedicine we are pioneering innovations in medical education. Students will use the latest medical training tools and will learn from outstanding academic staff and clinicians."

The School’s Senior Vice Dean, Professor Jenny Higham, who is also Vice Dean of Imperial’s Faculty of Medicine, said: “At LKCMedicine we’re pioneering innovations in medical education. Students will use the latest medical training tools and will learn from outstanding academic staff and clinicians. The new teaching materials have been rigorously tested and have received excellent feedback from Imperial’s existing medical students in London. We are confident that the new course will deliver the highest quality of training, giving students the knowledge, skills and experience to become first-rate doctors leading the next generation of healthcare innovations in Singapore.”

Students in Imperial's Faculty of Medicine have produced a video to welcome the 54 LKCMedicine freshers and to share their top tips for medical school.
