Health Sciences Academy launches website for professional training and education

A 'one-stop-shop' website for London's healthcare professional training and education was launched today by Imperial and two partner universities.

The Health Sciences Academy – a collaboration between Imperial College London, Brunel University London and Buckinghamshire New University – has today (23 February) launched its website healthsciencesacademy.london.

The Academy provides a comprehensive, high-quality range of flexible courses to meet the postgraduate training and education needs of all healthcare professionals in North West London, the UK and worldwide.

The new website provides information on the full range of health sciences postgraduate education provision offered by each of the three partners.

Professor Jenny Higham, Vice Dean (Education and Institutional Affairs), Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine, and President of the HSA, said: “The Health Sciences Academy will allow healthcare professionals to access the world-leading academic expertise at all three partner institutions, as we work together to drive up standards and improve the patient experience. Collaborations like this allow us to become much more than the sum of our parts.”

Academy courses range from short professional development modules to Master’s courses, and are responsive to national education and training priorities with the overall aim of enhancing patient care, informed by world-leading research in the partner universities and designed to fit flexibly alongside professional commitments. 

Making a difference

Professor Julia Buckingham, Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University London stated: “The Health Sciences Academy is a hugely exciting collaboration, which firmly focuses research and educational excellence on making a difference to people’s lives. It gives all three partners the opportunity to really support healthcare professionals and, in turn, give patients the help they need.” 

Alison Chambers, Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean, Buckinghamshire New University Faculty of Society & Health, also said: “Bucks New University is delighted to collaborate with Brunel and Imperial in the first national initiative of its kind to bring together the expertise of three leading Higher Education Institutions.  This partnership provides a perfect opportunity to co-design and deliver interdisciplinary post graduate education to support the development of health care professionals in their provision of high quality, safe and effective care.”

HSA courses will be suitable for health professionals working in a range of healthcare settings, and directors of training and development at NHS Trusts are encouraged to let their staff know about the HSA website, which is designed to serve as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for postgraduate healthcare training provision in North West London.  

Visitors to the site can search for courses by name, theme, profession or award level.  Prospective students are welcome to contact the HSA via the ‘Get in touch’ section of the website, to find out more about the options available through the HSA, or may even suggest a course that is not currently offered via the ‘Suggest a course’ section.
