Imperial has also announced that Jones Lang LaSalle have been appointed on town planning, Buro Happold as mechanical and electrical engineer, Curtins as structural engineer and Faithful+Gould as cost consultant for the new Hub.

The Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub will house life-changing research into new and affordable medical technology, helping people affected by a diverse range of medical conditions. Imperial's world-class engineers, scientists and clinicians will work together in the new space and facilities alongside spin-out companies, helping to create a vibrant innovation district at Imperial West. The Hub will also incorporate clinical areas, providing patients with direct access to innovations in healthcare.

The Hub is funded by a £40 million gift from Imperial alumnus Michael Uren OBE and his Foundation.

This new development will follow the two new buildings comprising the Research and Translation Hub which have already started construction, for completion in 2017.

Allies & Morrison, a leading contemporary architecture practice, has designed a range of successful masterplans and buildings in inner London and is known for delivering beautifully crafted and well considered buildings that respond to their context.

Imperial expects to submit a planning application for the new building early next year.

Martin Summersgill, Director for Estates Masterplanning & Development, said: “The Michael Uren  Biomedical Engineering Research Hub will provide a significant step in establishing  Imperial West as a high quality environment for  world-leading research and translation in west London, and we look forward to working with Allies & Morrison and the wider team to deliver this important scheme.”
