The Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Malaysia launched the campaign at Imperial

Imperial welcomed the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Malaysia, Richard Graham MP, to launch the Education is GREAT campaign on Monday 25 January.

The campaign strives to increase engagement with British education in Malaysia and the wider region - bringing together schools, universities, vocational training, the British Council and professional bodies.

More than 100 educational institutions and companies, including the College, have signed up to be partners in the campaign - which will comprise of a three year progeamme of activities and events to celebrate and promote UK education in Malaysia.

Education is GREAT forms part of the UK Government's broader GREAT Britain campaign, which aims to promote the UK internationally as a place to visit, study and do business.

Speaking at the event, Richard Graham MP said: “I don’t believe we could have found a better venue to hold our Education launch. Imperial College is one of the UK’s leading universities and it was also recently ranked the UK’s most international university by Times Higher Education.” 

Better together

Imperial has strong and long-standing links with Malaysia, boasting the largest cohort of Malaysian students in London - the second largest overseas student cohort at Imperial after China. The College’s researchers have more than two hundred joint papers with colleagues at Malaysian institutions over the last five years.

Professor Tom Welton, Dean of Imperial's Faculty of Natural Science, said:  “At Imperial, we are proud of our strong ties with Malaysia.  We have the privilege of educating many of the country’s finest students – and more Malaysian students than any other London institution. 

“Our Malaysian students take advantage of Imperial’s vibrant, research-led, innovative environment and thrive. Their contributions to our university and the whole country are profound. Collaboration with Malaysian universities and businesses is helping us to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Such partnerships are mutually beneficial. Together, we can achieve more.”

His Excellency the Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland said: “Malaysia aims to become an international and regional education hub and has already become the fastest growing destination for international students.  

“Together, we are strong.  Together, we can offer the best and attract the best.”
