Spring Concert - in memory of Professor Malcolm Haines

by

A dedication to Malcolm Haines

The Department of Physics Spring Concert was a great success

Our second musical evening in Blackett was held on the 14th March and was a tribute to the memory of Professor Malcolm Haines who was also an organist. Polly Haines and her son Paul honoured us with their presence and amongst the performers, Colin Bradbury, who taught at the Royal College of Music and was also a great friend of Malcolm’s, delighted us with two pieces on the clarinet. Andrew Knight gave a fitting eulogy in praise of Malcolm’s musical life and spoke of his long and fruitful association with Polly and Malcolm.

The evening shone with a programme of two halves by a talented cast from Physics and friends which took us out of our winter miseries. We were also privileged to be at the premiere of Peter Jones’ piano composition ‘Rhapsody’. Thanks to all of our wonderful performers who are listed on the programme, music at Imperial has found its way back to its original home in Blackett.

Thank you to the Physics Department, the evening was helped along by informality, humour, sparkling wine and friends.
