The Bioinformatics Support Service has been renamed the Bioinformatics Data Science Group
The Bioinformatics Support Service has a new name.
From June 1st, the Bioinformatics Support Service (BSS) will be known as the Bioinformatics Data Science Group (BDSG). This name reflects the gradual change in emphasis of the work undertaken by the group over the last few years, culminating in their relocation from the Department of Life Sciences Faculty of Natural Sciences to the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Faculty of Medicine in May 2015. Whilst the group will continue to operate as a college-wide facility offering help and support in a wide range of bioinformatics areas, emphasis is now on larger, longer running projects with complex data management and analysis requirements. This is typified by close involvement with a number of large initiatives within the Faculty of Medicine, including the MRC UK MED-BIO project, the IC Healthcare Tissue Bank and the new Institute of Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (ITMAT).
