Undergraduate students from the Department have been recognised for their final year research project work on retinal oxygenation.
Congratulations to Emilie Lunddahl and Wouter Thijssen on their achievements at the Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering and Biotransport Conference Student Paper Competition! The competition entries were judged based on abstract review and on-site poster presentation. Only a select number of submissions were shortlisted and invited to take part in the conference, and the pair ended up being placed a very impressive 4th out of 18 shortlisted competitors in the Master's (MS) level of the competition.
Their final year research project, titled "Mathematical Modelling of Oxygen Transport in the Retina" aimed to provide a better understanding of retinal oxygenation by evaluating and enhancing methods of mathematical modelling of oxygen distribution in the retina. The research was supervised by Professor Xiao Yun Xu and PhD student Andris Piebalgs.
The conference took place in National Harbor, Maryland between June 29 – July 2 and this year's theme was "Impact of Biomechanics on Healthcare".
