Chemical Engineering Student Satisfaction Rises

Student satisfaction with Chemical Engineering has increased steadily by nearly 20% over the last four years

2013 National Student Survey shows student satisfaction with Chemical Engineering is the highest for any UK university

Results from the 2013 National Student Survey (NSS) released this week show that student satisfaction with Chemical Engineering is at its highest since the survey began, with an overall satisfaction rating of 97%.  This score puts Imperial firmly at the top of the nationwide ranking of 22 Chemical Engineering Departments.

Undertaken annually since 2005, the NSS is completed by final year undergraduates, who are encouraged to provide honest feedback about their experiences of studying their degree.  Results are made publicly available to prospective students to help them make informed decisions about potential courses.

Chemical Engineering's rating of 97% is a fantastic improvement on the 86% satisfaction achieved in the 2012 survey, with students particularly pleased with the Department's learning resources, teaching and focus on personal development.

Professor Omar Matar, who is this summer stepping down as Director of Undergraduate Studies after six years, is particularly happy with the 2013 survey.  "This reflects how seriously the Department takes the student experience, and how hard we are willing to work to ensure that our students are extremely satisfied with all aspects of our courses", he said. "The challenge for us now is to remain at the very top, and to continue to deliver undergraduate programmes that are at the very pinnacle of excellence."

2013 has been a good year for Imperial in general, with overall satisfaction at a record 87%, slightly above sector average.
