Chemical Engineering PhD students who run a student chapter of the International Association of Hydrogen Energy have achieved Chartership status and received two awards.

A student chapter of the International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE) has received Official Chartership as well as receiving two awards for Outstanding Student and Faculty Service.

The IAHE Chapter Official Chartership was formally presented to Prof. Nigel Brandon (Earth Science), Director of the Energy Futures Lab, and the Outstanding Student and Faculty Service Awards were awarded to Chemical Engineering PhD students Yousef Alshammari (Chapter President), Chin Kin (Vice-President, and Faculty Liaison (Dr. Klaus Hellgardt).

According to the Chapter President Yousef Alshammari, “this achievement highlights the ongoing altruistic and scientific contributions made by Imperial College students working within the field of hydrogen energy technologies, including solar hydrogen, clean production of hydrogen from hydrocarbons, and fuel cell technologies. This includes organising the First Hydrogen Energy Research Student Symposium of Imperial College,  at which relevant keynote talks given by Dr. Paul Adcock, Director of Research and Technology at Intelligent Energy, and Prof. Nigel Brandon, Director of Imperial College Energy Futures Lab. Such achievements are definitely a source of inspiration for current and future research students to develop new technologies for clean energy, while it particularly shows the noticeable potential for hydrogen for energy storage, transportation, and climate change mitigation. Our aim is to inspire and attract more research students, and act as an excellent platform for networking and information exchange on hydrogen-related technologies”.

Prof. Brandon added, “I would like to thank Yousef, Chin and Klaus for all their efforts in establishing such a vibrant student led community in hydrogen energy.  We have been delighted to support this initiative through the Energy Futures Lab, and it is great to see all their efforts, and that of the College, recognised in this way by the International Association of Hydrogen Energy".

chapter from IAHE as well as the Outstanding “Student” and Faculty” Service Awards.
