On 8th June 2016, the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) welcomed world-renowned architect, Michel Mossessian, for a talk on how space impacts human behaviour.

Michel is a Visiting Professor at the IGHI and also a Design Principal at Mossessian Architecture, a firm he founded in 2005. Mossessian Architecture has designed numerous high-profile buildings around the world, including two buildings within London’s Kings Cross Revitalisation Project and the Medina of Fes, Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

As our health is increasingly linked to our environment, Michel’s work in findings ways to maximise human well-being through architectural design is an invaluable asset to IGHI’s work, particularly for our HELIX Centre for Design in Healthcare.

During the talk, Michel discussed how architecture and our environment impact human behaviour and showcased several projects from his varied portfolio to illustrate how. He said that environmental design factors, such as the presence of water or trees, can profoundly affect us as individuals, including our mental and physical wellbeing.

Lord Ara Darzi, Director of IGHI, introduced Michel’s talk. He said that the Helix Centre for Design and Healthcare, one of the seven centres of excellence of IGHI, will truly benefit from having Michel’s expertise at hand.
