MBA Student of the Year competition

An Imperial Executive MBA student is one of 4 finalists in the Association of MBAs MBA Student of the Year Competition

Jeannette Adu-Bobie, an Imperial College Business School Executive MBA student, was a finalist in this year's ‘MBA Student of the Year' award.

Jeannette Adu-Bobie is a research scientist currently based in London and is working in collaboration with the Sanger Institute where she is project lead and coordinator for the Pathogen Database project. Recently she started work on a project to develop a low cost blood culture instrument to measure bacterial growth in less developed countries.

Gala dinnerIn 2005, Jeannette's career was unexpectedly halted as she contracted septicaemia resulting in a series of medical procedures and several months re-habilitation in hospital. This did not stop Jeannette enrolling in the Imperial College Executive MBA programme in 2008 and going on to be one of the highest attaining of the 90 experienced professionals on the course. Jeannette, who thrives on challenge, described the Imperial MBA as a fantastic and stimulating environment where she gained business skills and knowledge that helped to get her career back on track.

A highlight of the course for Jeannette was the international study tour to South Africa. She described the trip as fascinating and learnt a considerable amount from witnessing various organisations in a growing economy, the challenges they face and how they will work to solve them. A lot of the material Jeannette gathered on this trip was used for her final MBA project.

Jeannette has been an inspiration to the academic faculty, MBA programme team, and her MBA peers at Imperial College. She has invited high profile speakers for the benefit of the Imperial MBA students, brokered collaborative discussions between Imperial College Business School and the University of Sienna and has tested the Business School in terms of compliance with the disabilities discrimination act. Jeannette's favourite quotes include ‘impossible is nothing' and she has taken a lot from Barack Obama and his quote ‘yes we can'.

Going back to university has enabled Jeannette to achieve several personal milestones. She has said that she has always enjoyed a challenge, learning new skills and meeting new people. This has been made possible on the Imperial MBA. Her journey has been unbelievably arduous but her outstanding academic achievement, interpersonal skills and steely professionalism make her a role model and inspiration for all. It is little wonder she was named one of the four finalists in this year's MBA Student of the Year competition.
