The ScottishPower Foundation has today announced 17 new post-graduate scholarship grants in the UK for the 2015/16 academic year.

The ScottishPower Foundation scholarships are in partnership with its Spanish equivalent Fundacion IBERDROLA and Imperial College London. The scheme’s aim is to contribute to the education of young professionals and provide them with the capabilities required to lead the energy industry into the future.

Dr Johannes Spinneken, ‎Director of Education for Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College London, said: “We’re very pleased to be partnering with the ScottishPower Foundation and Fundacion IBERDROLA again.

“The University is involved in a wide range of renewable energy research and development projects, and our graduates are well-equipped to make real contributions to changing how energy is generated, stored and distributed.”

The grants are available to those who wish to study towards qualifications in energy and environment related studies at Imperial College London, like Energy Futures Lab’s MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures. The course covers areas such as renewable energies, sustainable energy systems, environment and biodiversity, clean coal technologies, emissions management, energy efficiency, energy storage, electric vehicles and smart grids.

Ann Loughrey, Trustee and Executive Officer at the ScottishPower Foundation, said: “The partnership between the ScottishPower Foundation and Fundacion IBERDROLA helps continue the development of the UK’s future industry leaders. Over the past five years the ScottishPower Foundation has supported over 60 students through their post-graduate studies, giving them the opportunity to build a career in the energy industry.

“Today’s announcement further demonstrates our long term investment in skills and education and encourages emerging talent at the highest level.”

Including Imperial College London the scholarship places are available at five other UK Universities: the University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool and University of Strathclyde.

The grants cover full enrolment costs and provide an additional living allowance of £1,200 per month. Applications for the forthcoming academic year open on Monday 2 February and close on Thursday 26 March.
