About Imperial's News site
Launched in March 2013, Imperial’s News channel offers the latest updates on the fascinating activities of one of the world’s top science-focused universities. Our team of newshounds from Communications and Public Affairs aim to share stories of cutting-edge research and innovative approaches to education, and to highlight where the College is breaking new ground. We also seek to celebrate individual successes and to offer insights into the life and times of Imperial College London.
The development of Imperial's News channel
The project to develop the News channel aimed to pull together all news published by Imperial. The site features news of Imperial’s research and education activities in science, engineering, medicine and business alongside community-focused content from the College’s newspaper Reporter. In developing the News channel the project team from Communications and Public Affairs and ICT, working closely with the Faculty Web Officers, researched the design and structure of other news sites, examining how they reflect the ever changing nature of news. The News channel therefore has a different design from the main College website and uses templates that enhance the display on mobile phones and tablet devices, supporting access to news anywhere and at any time.
Integrating Imperial's newspaper, Reporter
Reporter was first published in print in 1995 as a four-page black and white A3 leaflet. Over the years it has developed into a 16-page, colour newspaper full of stories, published every three weeks during term time and distributed to all Imperial campuses.
In June 2010 Reporter online was launched to provide the Imperial community with news and features in a timely fashion and to supplement stories appearing in the print edition with videos, slideshows and audio clips. Since September 2012 content that would previously have appeared on Reporter online now features on the News channel.
