Welcome to the Future Railway Research Centre
The Future Railway Research Centre (FRRC) at Imperial College London is housed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and is chaired by Professor Roderick A Smith, FREng.. It conducts technical railway related research in four broad areas: Vehicle-Track Interaction, Sustainable Energy Systems, Vehicle Design and Materials Integrity, particularly the fatigue of vehicles and infrastructure.
The FRRC has three aims: the first is to provide leading edge research to improve the knowledge and technical capabilities of the railway sector. The second, is to facilitate the UK's ability to migrate to the most energy-efficient, safe, high-speed, and cost-effective railway network. The third is to provide a supply of high level technically trained staff for the railway industry world-wide.
