We currently seeking applicants for PhD studentships in the following areas:

In addition, the department welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants at any time to any member of academic staff in their respective research fields. The Director of Research is Professor Peter Lindstedt. The main Imperial College Postgraduate Open Day will take place on the South Kensington campus on Wednesday 7th December 2011 at 12.30pm - 4pm (last entry 3.30pm). Each Department will have a stall where staff will be able to advise on the research and taught masters opportunities available in their department. There will also be stands giving advice on the application process, accommodation, fees and funding and we will be running tours of the campus throughout the afternoon.

How to Apply

Direct PhD registration now in the Department

Please note: With effect from 1st October 2010 Mechanical Engineering Research Students will no longer register initially as MPhil/PhD students.  Students will register directly onto the PhD programme.

Applicants are encouraged to apply online. Contact the Postgraduate Secretary Mrs Melanie O'Brien (melanie.obrien@imperial.ac.uk)  for more information.  Please ensure that you include 'Mechanical Engineering Research' in the programme title field on the application form.

Please remember to:

  • be aware that many studentships (especially overseas) have application deadlines a long time ahead of your planned start date so it is advisable to commence the application process as early as possible
  • make your application to Imperial College London as early as you can – sponsors will be more impressed if you can show you already meet our requirements
