The transgenic-list hosted here serves global research community specializing in genetic modifications of experimental laboratory animals. Like many other electronic discussion groups aims to bring together people with the same interest through an easy and unrestricted exchange of information on the world wide web e-mail network.
Established in its present form in July 1996, it includes amongst its members active researchers in transgenesis from the novice to experts in the field. Major keywords cover wide spectrum of disciplines discussed: homologous recombination, targeted mutagenesis, inducible expression, ES cells, microinjection, mouse genetics, animal husbandry.
The list is public (open to subscription to anyone, but subject to id verification), un-moderated (no editorial cuts from the list-owner) and closed (only subscribers may submit communication).
There are over 1700 current participants, from all continents. There are on average 3-4 messages on the list a day, fluctuating obviously like any natural phenomenon. Such level of traffic is manageable and most likely preferable, but the digested form of the list is available for those who prefer single compressed message for the day (or two). It is also envisaged that the contents of journals relevant to transgenic research will be periodically distributed to the list.
Fully searchable archives of the list are accessible by web browser at http://mailman.ic.ac.uk/mailman/private/transgenic-list/ and also available from the International Society for Transgenic Technologies (ISTT)
The listowner can be contacted at: p.sobieszczuk@imperial.ac.uk
