INSPIRE

INSPIRE (Innovative Scheme for Post-Graduates IResearch and Education)

The INSPIRE programme aims to bridge the gaps between scientific research, universities and schools by placing top postgraduate research scientists in Physics or Chemistry or Engineering in classrooms to communicate excitement of science to school pupils.

INSPIRE is a full-time 9-month and half programme offering seven months and half  PGCE combined  with two months of  INSPIRE activities (master classes, science clubs, workshops, demonstration lectures and university visits etc) to Post-Docs, PhD, MSc, MSci in the physical sciences and engineering at the end of their research. The course starts in September each year.

Schools

  • Host an INSPIRE PGCE student with a research background in Physics or Chemistry or Engineering
  • Access to an entire cohort of outstanding scientists who want to teach in your school and run inspirational outreach activities
  • Direct links to Imperial

Postgraduates

  • Gain a PGCE qualification
  • Combine creative ideas gained through research with teacher training to communicate the excitement of science to pupils
  • Receive a very attractive bursary (an additional bursary on top of the amount provided by the government)  and get your fees covered

Teacher Education

  • The PGCE is provided by Canterbury Christ Church University which has a track record of developing innovative teacher education programmes and was recently awarded Outstanding by Ofsted. Details of the initial teacher training aspect of the INSPIRE programme can be found on the CCCU Website
