About the performers
Imperial College Winds
Imperial College Winds, now in its twelfth year, is a non-auditioned group of wind, brass and percussion players who like to play for fun, enjoyment and sociability. Its repertoire includes a wide range of styles from traditional English folk music, to modern film scores - including Jurassic Park, James Bond and Star Wars - to suites from West End musicals, with just about everything in between!
Band of the Coldstream Guards
Formed in 1650, the Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards is the oldest corps by continuous existence in the British Army. The Band is renowned around the world and has recently completed a Columbia Artists Tour of the USA lasting 3 months. The Band can be regularly seen performing at State Ceremonial events across London and further afield. The band has a wealth of talent and can be made available to support any event in a number of formats from small ensembles to marching band. Being located in central London the Band attracts some fantastic instrumentalists and is ideally located for supporting major events in the capital.
The current Director of Music is Lieutenant Colonel Graham Jones.
Symphony Orchestra:
Winners of the coveted title 'Orchestra of the Year 2008' in the inaugural Symphony Competition, sponsored by the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, and described by one of the jury (RPO Principal Bassoon Daniel Jamieson) as 'sounding like a professional orchestra' ICSO is rightly regarded as one of the best university orchestras in the UK. The orchestra was formed in 1948 and continues to flourish under acclaimed professional conductor Richard Dickins. A memorable highlight of the past academic year saw the orchestra travel to South Africa in January 2010, to participate in the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival.
