About us
The Department of Earth Science and Engineering is at the forefront of Earth science and engineering studies across the globe, offering courses at undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels.
Our teaching received the top rating of 24/24 in an assessment by the UK government agency, the Higher Education Funding Council of England. We are also a leading international centre for research.
We are unique in the UK in combining Earth science with engineering. Engineering is the practical application of science to the real world. Scientists can't solve the world's problems without engineers to translate their theory into methods and machines – the tools of industry.
There's world class research going on - really amazing projects.
– Hannah Bungey, year 4
