Research: Fluid Mechanics

Welcome to the Fluid Mechanics Section

The Fluid Mechanics Section is one of seven groups within the 5-star rated Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. It has four academic staff members with research interests covering fundamental fluid mechanics, offshore and coastal engineering, environmental fluid mechanics, hydraulic structures, building ventilation and two-phase flows, particularly those relating to sediment transport.

Research

ResearchThe Section's research activities include laboratory investigations, theoretical and numerical modelling, as well as field observations. 

Teaching

teachingThe Fluid Mechanics Section contributes to the undergraduate MEng degree as well as offering opportunities at Postgraduate level. 

Facilities

facilitiesThe Hydrodynamics Laboratory is located within the Skempton Building and is the largest of its kind in the UK University sector.
