Introduction

Some children are admitted to Paediatric Intensive Care units after having clinically deteriorated despite the care given to them by the multidisciplinary teams in District General hospitals: They usually have a serious and rare form of some of the common diseases for which children are admitted to hospitals. Medical and nursing teams do not necessarily have sufficient exposure in managing these more severe cases. These cases include: Severe asthma, Severe Bronchiolitis, Severe Diabetes keto acidosis, Sickle cell disease and crisis. This course aims at helping doctors and nurses gain further knowledge and experience in the management of patients with these conditions.

Course Aims

By the end of the course, doctors and nurses will have gained further knowledge on the management of these serious conditions on the general wards and subsequent management in High Dependancy Care units.

Course Methods

The course will use a variety of lectures and workshops including group discussions and practical procedures.

Who Should Attend?

This course would be extremely beneficial for Consultants, Junior Doctors and Nurses.
