Salary £31,340 - £38,930 per annum

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among the UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating in Research Assessment Exercises, coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
Applications are invited for the position of Systems Programmer. This post will be part of the Computing Support Group (CSG), which supports the department’s large staff and student population. The CSG comprises of a small team of system and application programmers, and user support staff. CSG develop and support computing and communications systems for teaching, administration and research, and have a reputation for innovation in developing manageable and leading edge services.
The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance, support and development of the department’s Solaris and Linux infrastructures, overseeing interoperability with other operating systems, and other services to meet the research, teaching and administrative needs of the department. In order to be considered for this post you will have experience of OS and Application software installation, upgrades and support, expertise with Windows and Linux operating systems and a good understanding of techniques such as DHCP, DNS, Active directory, yum, Apt etc. You will have the ability to programme in scripting and other compiled programming languages. Experience with Solaris, MAC OS X, and other operating systems is desirable. You will also have a good degree (or equivalent) in a Computer Science related subject.
This is a senior post requiring experience of working at a similar level. The post holder must be pro-active in their approach to their duties and be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.The post involves a high level of interaction with staff at all levels and the post holder must have a diplomatic and professional manner.

Research Group Secretary
Fixed Term Maternity Cover for 6 months with possible extension.

Research Assistant salary: £26,720 - £29,700 per annum
Research Associate salary: £30,520 - £31,340 per annum
The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
An opportunity has arisen for either a Research Assistant (at the pre-doctoral level) or a Research Associate (at the post-doctoral level) for an EPSRC funded project. The key challenge the project is planning to address is the analysis and visualization of multiple sources of multi-modal data that may be partial, unreliable and contradictory. In addressing this challenge the project expects to create an interactive visualization-based decision support assistant which collects data, fuses it, analyses it and visualizes the results in a way which can be shared by analysts. Each aspect of the assistant poses significant new scientific challenges.
The project team is multi-disciplinary. The project will be led by Imperial and involves 8 other universities. Within the project, this position will be responsible for systems integration and work on the analysis of data.
To apply for this position, you will need to have a strong background in Software Engineering/Theory. Experience of systems integration and XML is required as well as the ability to write large programmes in C and knowledge of Matlab.
For the Research Assistant post you will have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the research subject e.g. Computer Science or Software Engineering. For the Research Associate post you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area e.g. Computer Science or Software Engineering.
You must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Applicants will be expected to have a proven research record and publications in relevant areas. All applicants must be fluent in English.
You will be part of the Theory of Computational Systems Group, within the Department of Computing based at the South Kensington campus.
