Healthcare Management Group

The Healthcare Management Group focuses on the theoretical and empirical analysis of healthcare systems.

Professor Nelson Phillips

As well as contributing to new knowledge about key issues in healthcare delivery, our research informs policy and practice. We work with high level policy makers, managers and administrators, clinicians and the industrial supply chain to develop strategic policy, implement new approaches and improve existing operational models.

Our research uses analytical methods from health economics, technology and innovation management, the economics of happiness and wellbeing, management accounting, organisational behaviour and management information systems.

Our research focuses on three main areas:

  • Health system regulation, payment and incentivisation
  • Innovation and organisational change
  • Economic and social determinants of health and quality of life

The Group hosts the Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC), led by Professor James Barlow, a multi-university collaboration funded by EPSRC.

Members of the Group are also involved in research under the National Institute for Health Research North West London Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care.

We have strong MSc International Health Management and Doctoral degree programmes.

We have occasional opportunities for short internships, to work on research projects within the group. Due to employment and immigration regulations we can only take interns who are citizens of the European Union. If you are interested, please contact Professor James Barlow at j.barlow@imperial.ac.uk.
