Research: Applied Mathematics & Mathematical Physics

About AMMP

Ranked fourth best in the UK based on a volume of world-leading and internationally excellent research activity.

The Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics Section, along with Pure Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, and Statistics, make up the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College. The Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics Section contains 36 Academic Staff, 3 Fellows, 5 Senior Research Investigators, 12 Research Associates and 47 PhD students.

The AMMP Section is home to a number Research Groups.  The research interests of member of the Section span a wide range of topics, including numerical analysis, condensed matter physics, biomathematical sciences, fluid dynamics, integrable systems, continuum mechanics, random matrix theory.

Historically, the AMMP Section was created in 2005 from a merger of the old Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, and Numerical Analysis Sections.
